DatA - Skywriter Review + Track: "So Much In Love"

Welcome to 'Skywriter', DatA's debut full length album. Often when you come down from a leak induced high (composed of an artist you love + obtaining hard to find goods), you meet the crash (several hours later) of realizing that the album is only so-so.

Either I haven't given the Skywriter a proper chance, or I jump too quickly to the next, newest artist. Either way, its not a good sign when you have to remind yourself to go back to a cd.

I would equate the album's lasting ability to Yuksek's debut album.

The singles, "One In a Million" and "Rapture" have been so thoroughly ingrained in my subconscious that I already skip over them when they come up (like Mind Dimension off Ciao!)

A lot of the album's charm is lost in the fact that I had heard half of it before it came out, but new tracks like "So Much in Love", "Nightmare", "Electric Fever" and "Skywriter" especially stand out to make the album worth holding onto.

I will also say that DatA can get some kick ass artwork for their material.

Interview w Junior Boy(s) and Max Tundra

Only positive press has surrounded the latest Junior boys album which is old news by now, due to the early leak (four months early) and the pace that music is thrown at us these days.

After their show at Mercy Lounge, I was able to talk with Matt Didemus (the Junior Boy to the right of the above image) and Ben Jacobs (who recently gained renowned for his spastic electronic style under the name "Max Tundra")

Picture the combination of Jocobs' peppy elegant British accent clashing with Didemus' straightforward almost jaded, deep tone of a voice and you have the following interview:

Eli Smith - Party All Knight

Found this one while shopping around on the IHC pages.

Maybe I'm a sucker for the "Knight" play on words, or just in the mood for mind numbing bass.

Either way check out Eli Smith's release from the So Sweet label which also released a 7 track Le Castlevania sampler which you can find over here

The sound fits right in with harder pounding tracks like Aoki's "Gifted" remix, which I only recently uncovered (due to following Aoki hate trends, I looked over it), but I have to hand it to him, the man can make a solid N.A.S.A mix

Moderat - "Sick With It"

There's a type of person who listens to Modeselektor/Aparat and other styles of 'post industrial artsy electronic house' . From my experiences, they're usually urban white kids who are into underground hip hop rooting from Chicago.

I'm not well acquainted with either artists (although "Happy Birthday" by Modeselektor is one of the better songs I've heard in my lifetime).

Its a big deal that these artists are collaborating because...

well collaborations are always fun.

As I was listening through the album my first thought was that this is going to be another ambient, deep drawn out housy cd (sort of true, but sort of not), I did however find a single on Moderat's debut album called, "Sick with It" that blew my mind.

I was driving when I first heard it; cityscapes and bridges were passing over me while the sun was setting.

I highly suggest that you check this one out, its already made its way to 'best originals of '09' on the nn end of the year list.
