For all the DJs frantically putting together their NYE setlists, here's a few goods I've gotten recently that you might like. Songs are arranged from soft to hard.

The Best Dance Single of 2009

This year's best track is presented by a new arrival artist. Phonat has some other nice productions but 'Set Me Free' really captures the heart of everything I could ever hope to hear in the club. I am always surprised at the eclectic audience this song has reached. No matter what type of crowd I play it out at, several people will immediately start going insane.

The song's brilliance can be found in it's musical story telling. It starts out with some nice vocal chops that float around your brain in sleek stereo sound. There's a blueballing buildup that teases you until your begging for the beat to drop.

A visual representation of 1:33-2:02 would be clouds parting after a thunderous storm. Poseidon just having reacked havock on the earth becomes tired and retreats back into the ocean's depths. You (the listener) are one of the only survivors left on earth, Your tattered and body floating above the treacherous deep. A beam of light pierces through the dark sky and strikes your skin causing a numbing sensation.

the heavens open up.

you are lead into a place of beauty, comfort and elation.

You can fly.

Other producers would be content with leaving their song finished here, having established a nice hook and general vibe for their single. Not Phonat. Like a twist in a plot, he turns the song upside down around 3:18, launching us into a full on banger...tech...shit storm? I'm not sure what to call it but it's amazing and floors me every time.

Then toward the end there's a quick medly of everything you've heard, sort of like at the end of musicals where they mash up all the songs of the show so they get stuck in your head during the car ride home.

The Hood Internet used the last part of this song for an awesome Kid Sister mash up, the song is brilliantly mastered and produced, the album artwork is gorgeous the video is epic...

[Side Note] For those of you who would applaud me for not making a top ten of 09, don't. Mine's just a little late. For now here's the best dance single of 2009.

Pick Up the Phone

Just got this killer remix of Dragonette's 'Pick up the Phone' single.

"We are Victor and Raúl, from Here We Are, a Spanish electro-band (from Madrid specifically). Recently we have won a Dragonette's remix contest at an important Spanish electronic-music blog called NEONIZED, and we would like that our remix of 'Pick up the Phone' appears at your blog if it possible and you like it"

Yes its possible. And yes I like it. I had to keep the broken English as is (always the most endearing emails).

This is a seriously good track. It's a got a pretty much infinite replay ability. At certain points the vocals drown a bit in the mix, but thats the only negative criticism I can give it. Nice job and I look forward to watching 'Here We Are' grow as a band/producers.

GMGN

I've got two brand spakin new mixes from Good Morning Good Night. I met them a while back when they sent over their infectious 'On My Mind' remix. Since then I have been relentless in my harassment to shake them down for new dance funk grooves.

So here you go, straight from them to me to you; two Nashville Nights EXXXCLUSIVES.

If you're following the NN Twitter, you already know about this.

Sometimes my fanboy self spills out. I can't help it. I love Star Wars. I love Adidas.

It seems like every time I get down about how shitty the Star Wars prequels were, something like this comes up and reminds me of why I fell in love with the original trilogy. Adidas has been chosen to represent a new line of Star Wars sneakers (due sometime in 2010). Judging from previous SW related shoes, these will probably be in the $80-90 range. Additional info on the product here.

I'm not into the Vader ones. I don't like shoes that look like something my dad would work out in. The orange Skywalker hi tops and X-Wing Rebel Alliance ones however...need those.

Dope post deserves a dope song at the end. Here's Peo de Pitte's brand new dub of Riverside.

Lost in Music

Might as well call Le Principle the funk doctors. They're out there every night performing cpr on tunes you thought was dead. Listen to these jams they recently resurrected called 'The Music' and 'Lost In Music'. They're my favorites out of a pack of free tunes they gave away through twitter.

Last I heard they were supporting Major Lazer and Rusko, so keep your eyes peeled for the rise of this duo.
