Fare Soldi x Justin Faust

The above image fits perfectly with the vibe of Justin Faust's production; colorful and clean, familiar yet new. If candyland had a theme song it would sound like Faust's latest mix for Fare Soldi (italian dance music makers). Newcomers to the the Faust train will be greeted with colorful pop sounds and cleanly executed production. Veterans of the producer now have another track to add to their growing collection.

Emotional Jams: New Buffet Libre & Chew Fu

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Getting news from Buffet Libre is always exciting. I'm not exactly sure what they are (label? artists? blog?) they basically do everything and they do it all with class. I was first introduced to them with their 'Buffet Libre Rewind' collection which takes the best producers on the web and has them reanimate older classics.

Currently they've just released a new mix for The Antlers which you will find bellow accompanied by Chew Fu's latest work. Both mixes are ripe with emotional dance floor bliss.

"I don't see you crying, robot! You taste these tears. Taste my sadness!"

Pass That Dutch

NN has quite the love connection with DJ Figure who's currently in cahoots with Tommy Sunshine, representing a new label called 'Brooklyn Fire'. He just sent me this rave-tastic rendition of Missy Elliot's 'Pass That Dutch'.

I love me some middle school jams. I love me some Figure. I love me some Missy.

If you want to cut out the middle man, follow DJ Figure on twitter (he posts new productions almost daily)

Mar 07 - Portland. OR @ Hawthorne Theater
Mar 09 - San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore Auditorium
Mar 10 - Los Angeles, CA @ El Rey Theatre
Mar 12 - Pomona, CA @ The Glass House
Mar 13 - San Diego, CA @ Casbah
April 22 - Atlanta @ Masquerade Hell Stage
April 23 - Washington @ 9:30 Club
April 24 - Philadelphia @ Pure (Making Time)
April 28 - Boston @ Middle East
April 29 - Montreal @ SAT
April 30 - Toronto @ Phoenix Concert Hall
May 01 - Chicago @ Metro

Michael di Francesco of Van She/Van She Tech fame has produced another beautiful remix for Dragonette. The last partnership between these two artists resulted in one of my favorite remixes ever made: I Get Around (Van She Mix).

Arithmatix! is Micheal di Francesco's new working name. The sound of the mix is everything a Van She Tech fanboy needs: vivid energy, perfect beats and synth production that is incomprehensibly smooth.

Gym Tonic x Laidback Luke

Laidback Luke balances out the Sinclar heavy production of "Gym Tonic" with more Bangaltar style house pop energy in his bootleg of the 1998 single. The result sounds like an ode or continuation of "Crescendols" that heads strait to your adrenaline glands. Whether you're an avid Daft Punk fan or Laidback Luke follower, here's one for your collection.

Zodiac Cartel

Glitchy pops and crackling percussion make up the haunting intro to Zodiac Cartel's remix of 'Echoes In My Head'. Listening to the song is like running through a giant metallic maze; one in which new sounds are being thrown at you every corner you turn.

Rimer London

Rimer London represents one of Le Le's three members. I was impressed by previous Le Le single, 'Disco Monster' so this new sideproject had my ears burning before I even clicked on the track.

London's two part 'Intercity' EP marks some of the better italo disco music that's ever landed in my inbox. Both tracks are equally enjoyable with sleek production that engages you from start to finish.

The 'Intercity' EP will be released Jan 25 on Magnetron Music

Computer Club

March 9th marks the date for Computer Club's new EP release for So Sweet Recs. The six track package goes by the name 'Nerd Secrets' and includes a new single with Frankmusik vocals on it. Since March is a couple months off, Mike(CC) has given us some freebies to tide us over.

First off here's his latest mixset (tracklist in comments):
http://www.mediafire.com/?zq1zmnimfjg

Second off, you'll find some disturbingly good remixes bellow. The Wired All Wrong mix is brand new and is quoted by CC as having the most positive feedback from producers and DJ's who got an early listen. It's barely been touched by the web so take a listen.

I also threw in an older Computer Club favorite of mine.

The Silent League & Memory Tapes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
You may not be familiar with New York indie rock outfit, the Silent League but now's as good a time as any to get acquainted. Their third album drops February along with a bonus disc that includes a Neon Indian remix.

Bellow you'll find a snippet of the band's new material called 'Yours Truly, 2095'; a driving tale of sex, loss and robot love. I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me this song was part of an off broadway Bladrunner themed musical.

Along with the original you can also enjoy the stripped down upbeat Memory Tapes remix of the single. Which one do you like better?

Toro Y Moi

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
A listen through Toro Y Moi's debut single 'Blessa' is like jumping into a dream in which you can breathe underwater. The mind conjures up foamy green and blue colors as your body begins to feel weightless. I'm not going to ask you to find your cave or spirit animal, but you get the gist. It's relaxing.

Chaz Bundick is the sound of Toro Y Moi which 'started in 2001 as a bedroom project but quickly grew into the live performance realm.' Influences range from several different genres including freak folk, r&b and french house.

If you were caught up in the chill wave that surfaced last year then you'll be happy to hear new and solid material for the genre from this producer.

I imagine Elton John, Washed Out, Daft Punk and Flying Lotus all arriving at the same house party and Chaz is there watching from the sidelines. Later that night he goes home and creates to the best of his recollection the memory of that event. The end result being 'Causers of This'

They Don't Love You Like I Love You

On paper it looks like someone's attempt to ride the wave of A-Trak's 'Heads Will Roll' success but I assure you this one's legit. The smooth production value has whimsical guitars working alongside big bass and techy synths. The cleverly placed buildups and breakdowns make it a ready made floor filler. Supafly

Meet Fugative. He's the prince of the playground.

All the British honeys want his 15 year old bod. His producer must know whats up because they've got A1 Bassline on the remix. I asked my twits what they thought before posting. They all wanted this one to show up. I'm guessing its going to sound good out there in the clubs.

With Love From Nashville

For those who don't know yet, Justin is one of the main characters behind the dance scene that's slowly building here in Nashville. We were all excited that he got this break, touring with Kesha and making MAD money but we're also sad to have a great DJ leave us for a while.

He sent me a couple promos under his new artist name, Fitout. Honestly I don't really like the stuff. There are brief glimpses of awesome in every production but those moments are sandwiched between about four minutes of not awesome.

$ Kesha - Tik Tok (Fitout Dub Mix)
$ Little Boots - Earthquakes (Fitout Remix)
$ Matt & Kim - Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare (Fitout Remix)
$ Fitout - Gil (MAVS Bicycle Chase Remix)

My Favorite in this batch is the MAVS remix (maybe because it sounds nothing like the original). The MAVS remix also sounds like it could have been made by Deadmau5's badass younger brother who breaks all the rules.

Best of luck to you Justin.

Contra Review

For me their last album was an instant classic in the form of a study companion or an old standard you could throw on during any occasion. If you've found a reason to not like Vampire Weekend then you're trying too hard to impress someone.

This new album starts exactly where the last one left off. There are no major changes in sound or style. If you liked the last one you'll enjoy this one too. It's no Empire Strikes Back as far as sequels go, but its no disappointment either.

Horchata's like someone pouring sugar into your coffee and you're shouting WHEN! WHEN!! Its just too sweet for my taste, but I have no complaints about the other nine tracks. 'White Sky', 'Cousins' and 'Run' stand out as my first favorites while the others will soon sink in after a few listens.

I'm confident in saying this is a very nice follow up to their enormous debut. Don't expect anything life changing. Expect a handful of stories told by a singer you've grown to love backed by fun guitar, keyboard and drumwork.

"Cassian's debut 3 track release, Friday Night, is out now on BangGang12s. To celebrate we thought we'd give you one of the tracks from it. How nice is that."

NN 09 Dance Singles Chart

Why do people feel they need to apologize before summing up the years best tunes? It's a great way to show readers what you were all about last year and therefore what sounds you'll be into this year.

No apologies here. I love making lists. It's one of the only ways of justifying the unhealthy amount of music I consume throughout the year. Instead of some big magazine with a lot of people to please telling you what was good last year here's my pick for best dance singles of 2009:

10. Mansion - Gasaida
If I had made a list for most hideously overlooked tracks of the year this would be number one. How many songs can hook you in the first millisecond?

9. Proxy - 8000
The bollywood wave broke this year and at the tail end was 8000, a bold and devastating club single that created a buzz in everyones ears virtually overnight since its announced release. Even the most frigid listeners will melt upon hearing the end of this track in the club.

8. Major Lazer - Pon de Floor
When I first got ahold of the album I remember flipping through the tracks and being halted by this one. 'This is the best track on the album' I thought to myself within the first listen. It was later visualized by Eric Wareheim and is now what you know it to be; an instant dry humping stimulant.

7. Tiga - Shoes
Ever since I saw the tantalizing artwork for Ciao! I was relentless in my search for the album. It was one of the first 2009 albums I really got into, making it a memorable landmark of the year. Shoes premiered through a BBC1 radio rip. It sounded really fresh and had an amazing instrumental hook. Once I figured out that Tiga's humor ran along the same line's as Tim and Eric I was completely sold.

6. Fake Blood - I Think I Like It
My run in with Mr. Fake Blood after posting this leaked single broke down a wall that forced me to take the relationship between artists and bloggers more seriously. It made me think twice about posting any leaked material actually. I guess my final conclusion to this matter would be if you want to post leaked stuff, post a downgraded 'preview' version.

5. Wolfgang Gartner - Wolfgang's 5th Symphony
Seriously Gartner must have the midas touch. Every single track he works on turns into a shiny dance floor filling, eargasm creating, mind destroying dance single. His 5th symphony is an unmistakable masterpiece. P.S. I realize I voided any credibility I may have had by posting an extreme snow boarding vid. [Double P.S.] I Just realized that 5th Symphony landed in the 5 spot ha.

4. Vega - No Reasons
The song starts with a harmonious hook and caries you into some pleasant vocals backed by your basic disco beat and some soaring synths. Its simple, fun and has a great buildup to its seventies style falsetto chorus. And I love falsetto choruses.

3. Boys Noize - Jeffer
Boys Noize holds a place in my mind as the man who can wield clicks and pops like no other producer. Jeffer was an instant hit once it first landed in my ears and will forever be a classic that shapes how we remember 2009.

2. Classix ft. Jeppe - I'll Get You
It's like a burst of summer air that greets you when you exit a building you've been cooped up in. You forgot how good it was just to be outside. The reverb in the mix creates the breeze, the foreign girl creates mystery and everyone likes bass.
