Act Yo Age vs DCUP

Prove that you're the coolest kid in your hood when you drop the latest DCUP remix of Act Yo Age. You know the drill, DCUP is no stranger to NN. He puts out only ACE mixes and we love him for it. Not sure if it's the small room echo on the flute or what but this song reminds me of a Japanese garden for some reason. The only other song to have reminded me of a Japanese garden is the Hercules & Love Affair remix of Cut Copy's "Far Away".

Has anyone been in a Japanese Garden? whats it like? Would you listen to this if you were there?

Thanks Sweat It Out for another sweet free remix. I will always love you,

sincirely yours,
Joseph

Lady Gaga Joins the Warp Trend

Whether you're a lover or a hater of what the Beetroots are up to these days, you have to give them credit for starting this whole...not sure what to call it, "warp" noise trend. It'd be nice if her producer utilized the sound instead of completely ripping off Warp.

its not just Gaga though, Dada Life have a more tasteful interpretation

Osawa too

Seeing Gaga put this sound in her song means a couple things: blog dance continues to have a big impact on pop trends

AND

People will be more open to hearing warp (and other harder tracks) played on the dance floor instead of fleeing in fear thinking "WHAT IS THIS NOISE?!!!"

live chanting always makes me giddy. this looks like fun:

The set decoration for their show at I love Techno 2009 got me to thinkin, "what would it look like to have the Beetroots playing on a Covenant Battle Cruiser?":

Midnight Juggernauts vs Emperor Machine

New Midnight Juggernauts material continues to arrive in preparation for their next full length. This time instead of a video, Acephale sent out a couple remixes of the growing single, "This New Technology" (which will be featured on Kitsune Maison 8).

Among those mixing are Memory Tapes, Nine Delta and Juan Maclean as well as one of my favorite budding talents, Emperor Machine who recently released a full length album, "Space Beyong the Egg". Their take on "This New Technology" is a funky one that should not be missed; a very enjoyable spaced mix that lasts almost nine minutes.

ps. does Emperor Machine's band name, font and design remind anyone else of Stereolab?

Kitsune 8 Out Nov. 30th

When I was a youngster (before I had ever heard of music blogs) I searched the very small terrain of the American Itunes store for electronic music. With each new discovery, there was a familiar stamp of these gray toned faces quickly drawn and jumbled together forming a sort of memorable unity.

I later found out that the people responsible for this clever branding technique were a French clothing and music label Kitsune Maison.

I enjoyed most of the singles I found released from Kitsune and to this day I'm still confused as to who is signed to Kitsune and who is just one of their friends. It seems like everyone is signed to three or four labels these days.

If your like me then you have developed a respect for this label and know that their compilations are always something to get excited about.

The only complaint I would be that label compilations in general are usually composed of songs that you've already been hearing for a long time.

Instead of a play-by-play of each and every song on the mix (It's a very good mix), I'll say that "Lets Go Surfing", "High Together", "Star", and "I Love London" are the singles that I'm always going back to.

Kitsune 8 will be released November 30th and in anticipation for its release they are giving away the Harvard Bass remix of Beni's Maximus track. You've probably heard this in the clubs; its been massively played out this year. Can't say it's my favorite remix (the clicks, pops and bleeps along with vocals keep this mix from being a completely redundant banger) but it does sound very nice on the big speakers.

Also until Nov. 30th you can listen to JBAG's five and a half minute minimix. Who is JBAG? Is he more than an expert in layering multiple tracks in ableton?

So Good It Hurts

Not to back myself into a Dreamwave corner or anything (plenty of diverse sounds ahead) but this style has been putting out like a(n) ______<-- adj for 'dirty/slutty/easy" ______ <--- noun for girl/boy/preteen.

[Bit Funk] Ever since his flawless remix of Hustler's Anthem, I've been on the lookout for any new material from this producer. The new mix doesn't disappoint.

[Xuman] Never heard of this guy, but I'm very glad he showed up in my inbox. 'Panic' starts out with a chaotic bassline which launches into an instantly likable dance pop dream anthem. win.

[Lifelike] Maybe its the interesting vocals he is working that make this Lifelike remix fresh and different than previous material. Very catchy and enjoyable.

[Russ Chimes] The first time I heard this, I was running out the door. I was halted and couldn't tear myself away from my headphones. Once the first break hit, everything else was put on hold (It's such an epic mix).

Binary Presents LA Lights! (Out Oct 13th) pt. DEUX!

So if you haven't heard, Binary Entertainment are releasing their debut compilation album today! You can check it out over at Itunes or visit Binary Web for more info.

As promised, here is part two/DEUX! of the three part binary promo wave. This includes one original by LexiconDon called "Heart Attack" that makes me want to raid my sisters drawer and closet space for black lipstick/eyeliner/nail polish and any possible boots that resemble Doc Martens.

Adding to their sturdy line-up of remix producers, Binary have snagged Grum, Hemmingway and 99 to work on the new LexiconDon and Keenhouse singles.

Grum's mix is a nice late night eighties strut; 99 turned 'Heart Attack' into a SebastiAn style head banger and Hemmingway uses ocean waves to surround your senses with what I believe to be THE most relaxing song ever created (more yacht funk please).

Beyonce x Alan Braxe

BEYONCE!!! Everyone with a vagina wants to be her. Its scary how much power this woman has over all other women (and gay men). I'm trying to think of a male equivalent...

maybe Neil Patrick Harris?

or Bill Murray? (for me)

'Broken-Hearted Girl' will be Beyonce's new single off the 'I Am... Sasha Fierce (Platinum Edition)' and it will include exclusive new tracks plus a DVD (released Monday Nov. 2nd on Musicworld/RCA Label).

In an act of brilliant promotion, the label has hired Alan Braxe to remix the upcoming single (twice!). You can hear them both bellow. I prefer the dub (which is more than just an instrumental of the original remix). Enjoy:

What Kind of Breeze Do You Blow - New Single/Remix Review In the Form of A Pleasent Anecdote + RAC mix

Instead of routinely clicking the download, watching the green bar expand and then listening to the track while staring blankly at a white blogger template, I decided to lay down and, you know, really take in the song that was just handed to me.

In this case, it was new material from "What Kind of Breeze Do You Blow?" a team that is well
known for their airy mixes of indie poppers such as Phoenix and The XX and more.

Just as I'm about thirty seconds in, eyes closed and nestled under the covers, my roommate (a dwarfish looking man with long flowing locks of silky black hair; imagine a slightly taller version of Gimly "AND MY AXE") busts into the room and informs me that the water is boiling.

Oh thats right.

Before I put myself into a trance-like mindset, I had started boiling some water in preparation to make easy mac.

The majestic vibe I had created was shattered.

After garnishing the designated amount of milk and butter, I ran back to my room, bowl in hand and slapped my headphones back on my head.

This remix is one of the better things I've gotten in the mail lately (which is hard to say after a bunch of Binary goodies were just sent to NN). There's only so many ways to call something breathy and dreamy and wonderful, so you'll just have to hear it for yourself; it's real good.

[Bonus] RAC is back with an energetic floor killer voiced by Reni Lane. Usually RAC mixes are hard to play out due to faster bpms, but this one is a very manageable 135. Check it!

Binary Presents LA Lights! (Out Oct 13th) pt1

If a Los Angeles sunset could be taken and squeezed into some sort of machine that turns images into sounds, the result would be Binary Entertainment, a collection of talent which is pioneering the Dreamwave movement stationed in California.

Ranking among the Binary crew are such greats as Keenhouse, NightWaves, Fabian, The Kids Are Radioactive and plenty more which you can experience live at their release party next tuesday (Oct 13th). More info on the release show at the Echoplex here.

To promote the release of their compilation (which will showcase two new singles from each of all seven artists), Binary sent out a crippling package of twelve TWELVE songs (including two new singles) for you to enjoy. I'll be back here to report on my favorites once they've had time to sink in. Till then, happy downloading:

[note] I'm splitting up the package into 4 song increments that will unfold from now until the compilations release in order to maximize listening time for each production.

Midnight Juggernauts - This New Technology (Video + MP3)

Its a good thing I held off on posting the new Juggers mp3 when it was first released; now I have this brand new video (thank Acephale Records) to accompany the the single. The video should only be watched in full screen to extract all of the cosmic beauty offered.

I especially enjoyed the use of the organ to bring out an oldies vibe which later turns into a melody that sounds strikingly similar to Bowser's Castle Theme (in Super Mario World aka the only Mario).

LePrinciple Debut Single

Sometimes the best tracks are those I save for later. I've been sitting on LePrinciple's "Nothing Like It" for some time now, probably because subconsciously I was thinking it was too good to share (greedy I know) but I wanted some time with it during my own sets before I sent it out into the world to get eagerly eaten up and thrown back onto every single dance floor.

So here you go, the first official track from LePrinciple, who I can assure you is not a one trick pony. I've had the great fortune of hearing the team's other tracks and there's a lot of fire to be had. so much fire.

Vampire Weekend - Horchata

In promotion for the new album which drops early January 2010, Vampire Weekend are giving away 'Horchata' a brand new single that you'll most likely still be listening to when January rolls around.

I can't believe the years almost over! That was quick.

Good thing VW are not pulling a Kings of Leon and completely changing the sound that got them so big. The single is pretty great, although a little cutesy for my tastes (at certain points it sounds like your listening to a Rug Rats soundtrack).

Say Things About Me

I was asked to play a set at this years' Next Big Nashville. IM PUMPED. They asked me for a bio, and instead of making my own, I'm hiring you guys to do it for me.

Use the above image of me (behind the laptop) as inspiration for your words and put it in the comments.

However you end up voicing my childhood memoir, it will probably end up getting printed somewhere.

The winner will get a personal mix of tunes from me.

MMMatthias and dAi remix Power (all of it)

Intended as a celebratory act surrounding the release of the new Boys Noize album, MMMatthias and dAi have created an edited/remixed version of the entire 'Power' LP; a noble conquest if enough time were spent on each track to make it something new.

Since about half of this project has minimal edits, I'm not going to post the full remix album because that would be posting something too close to a full version of the original 'Power'. Instead I'll post those edits that changed the song enough for it to be considered new material.

The concept of a MMMatthias / Jeffer remix was blowing my mind but after listening I was disappointed with how little toying around MMMatthias did with such an awesome BN track. Instead I heard an interesting intro that lead into a copy/paste of about 3:30mins of uninterrupted Boys Noize original content. BAD MMMatthias VERY BAD!

dAi for the most part added more changes to his mixes, making them more of an original art.

There's no questioning the talent of both these producers, I would just rather have one extremely dynamic remix from both of them instead of a full album of edits.

Good Indie Pop: Sergeant

Let's take a short break from all the bass wobbles, synth trills, loops and beats to recognize that one can not survive on dance alone...

Sometimes you have to venture to the other side of the tracks (the elbo.ws side) and immerse yourself in some warm guitar chords and wholesome real drum beats.

I introduce to you, "Sergeant", an independent Scottish outfit who hijacked the sounds of your nineties childhood and threw it back in ya face like a pete and pete re-run.

The result is a single appropriately called "It All Comes Back To Me", which I guarantee will have you smashing the repeat button once you finish dancing/remising/falling in love with it.

The release of the Memory Tapes' latest album, "Seek Magic" has been met with such praise and high regard across the vast lands of the internet that Acephale records (see CFCF, Salem, Air France etc), is giving you a taste off the new album for FREE.

Green Knight is a swampy sounding memoir that properly reflects the album cover. If you're as tired as I am, then you'll know its the best thing you could ever hear as your crawling into your bed.
