Whether you're a lover or a hater of what the Beetroots are up to these days, you have to give them credit for starting this whole...not sure what to call it, "warp" noise trend. It'd be nice if her producer utilized the sound instead of completely ripping off Warp.
its not just Gaga though, Dada Life have a more tasteful interpretation
Osawa too
Seeing Gaga put this sound in her song means a couple things: blog dance continues to have a big impact on pop trends
AND
People will be more open to hearing warp (and other harder tracks) played on the dance floor instead of fleeing in fear thinking "WHAT IS THIS NOISE?!!!"
live chanting always makes me giddy. this looks like fun:
The set decoration for their show at I love Techno 2009 got me to thinkin, "what would it look like to have the Beetroots playing on a Covenant Battle Cruiser?":
that Bloody Beetroots footage looks fucking EXQUISITE!
ReplyDeletewish i was there
It's the hoover synth. It's one of the most common synth sounds in electronic music. I guess the Beetroots brought it back, but they certainly didn't start it, nor did they do a great job with it (Dada Life did it must better as you said).
ReplyDeletei think warp is great.
ReplyDeleteThe Dada Life mix uses it nicely but i don't think it uses it properly. Its too choppy and you don't get the kind of energy from it that you get from warp
ReplyDeleteJoesph,
ReplyDeleteThe Juno-2 hoover was extremely popular about a decade ago. so much so it defined a genre, UK Hard House.
even before that, it help shape the sound of early rave 10 years prior.
i myself prefer it in it's previous incarnation and i don't feel it has much of a place in modern dance music.
thanks for knighting me onto your blogroll Joseph!
ReplyDeletei'm supposed to be at a club seeing AC Slater in a few hours but I'm so sick i can barely even write this message!
hope you're faring better!
